I will try to explain the most common rules.  Clearly I can't copy or explain all of them, but we can talk about the less common ones as we go through the season.

OFF SIDE

You are off side if you go into or are already in the attacking zone before our team carries, passes, or shoots the puck into the attacking zone.  You are in the zone if both skates are over the blue line.  The official will whistle and do a
faceoff where we shot the puck from to create the off side, or just outside the blue line where we carried it off side.

The official will delay the whistle if the puck does not go to one of our players and the other team is bringing it out of the zone (delayed off side).  The official's signal for this is one arm raised straight up.  If we get everyone out of the attacking zone at one time after a delayed off side, then the off side is over and we can go back in and play the puck.  Getting out of the zone means at least one skate is completely over the blue line into center ice.

The faceoff will be all the way back in our zone if the official thinks we could have avoided the off side (intentional off side).

There is no off side if the defending team brings or passes the puck back into their own defending zone.

CREASE VIOLATION

Imagine a curtain hanging in front of the goalie touching the semi-circular crease mark.  This imaginary curtain defines the goaltender's crease.  Attacking players cannot violate this crease with any part of their body or equipment unless the puck is already in the crease.  When a crease violation occurs the official will whistle and do a faceoff outside the attacking zone.

ICING THE PUCK

Icing is called when the attacking team shoots the puck from behind the red line to the opposite goal line.  The faceoff will be back in the attacking team's end.  The official will wave off the icing if a defending player other than the goaltender is able
to play the puck.  The judgement is whether it is possible to play the puck, not whether the player actually touches it.  The official will use a raised arm to signal an icing in progress.

There is no icing if the puck goes through the crease while the goaltender is there.

There is no icing if the team shooting the puck in is
shorthanded.

There is no icing if the goaltender actually touches the
puck before it goes over the goal line.

ADVANCING THE PUCK WITH THE HAND

You cannot use your hand to pass the puck to your teammate unless both you and the receiver are in our defending zone.  The official will whistle and do a faceoff.
You can use your feet (or anything else, like soccer) to pass.
