Bears - 31 October Dear Senators, Good game, Sens. I put a star on the shot chart for the whole team in the first period for outstanding defensive play in our zone. We kept the Bears down to seven shots and allowed only two from Zone 1. This, plus Tim's great turn at subbing in goal, plus Greg's great goaltending coming in stone cold, plus scoring first, makes a star period. Well done, everyone. Other high points in the first period were very good passing and good work on the points in the attacking zone. Good position in the attacking zone, as shown by the shots (and goal) from the high slot. Congratulations on the power play goal, a real plus. Finally, speaking of power plays, we killed off four penalties. Well done again. Things to work on: Cover, cover, cover. Please try to remember - when we don't have the puck, we want one player trying to get it back, and four players covering the other team. This is when we have to skate the fastest because we are not in control of the puck. If you see a Senator between you and the puck, don't worry about the puck. Let your team mate go for the puck and find a player to cover before they pass the puck to him or her. Start moving back when we lose the puck, not when the other team starts breaking out. There's usually a one-second difference there. That can amount to a lead of ten to fifteen feet up the ice. If we recover the puck, we can always get back into attacking position. See you Tuesday night, Don W.
