Blackhawks - 24 October Dear Senators, Many thanks to Tom Mirga for this input: Congratulations to Jim Miller, who got a nice hat trick in his first game back since the end of last winter season. Our first two goals early in the first period came on shots close in following shots or passes from our forward with the puck who curled hard into the high slot just after crossing the blueline, exactly as we practiced before the game. And, although we didn’t score during our power play to start the second period, it was was very, very strong. That’s a real positive development. I think we controlled the puck for nearly the entire two minutes against a tough opponent. If we keep it up we’re going to begin scoring on the PP. I won’t dwell on negatives. We obviously let up after taking the early lead. We were also hampered by having a relatively short bench (11 skaters total, four on D and seven up front. We didn’t play six forwards and five D because the consensus was the forwards needed the extra manpower.) Having just one more forward last night, to give us two centers and three wing pairs, would have helped a lot. Several people mentioned this after the game. Thanks again, Tom. See you Sunday, Don W.
