ROLLING THUNDER XV
26 MAY 2002

We have lived right here in Northern Virginia all these years and never attended Rolling Thunder, the annual tribute to U.S. war veterans on Memorial Day weekend. This year I decided to attend, but I had to fit it in between other things that Sunday.  As a consequence, my friend and I arrived at the Pentagon at two o'clock - very, very late.  Fortunately, officials directed us straight into the parade at the exit from the parking lot.  There were still thousands of motorcycles remaining in the Pentagon parking lot.  This is what we saw as we joined in on the road leading north to Memorial Bridge.  The pictures don't do justice to the sight, sound, and feel of this event.  As we rode east along Constitution Avenue, tens of thousands of people greeted and cheered us, many holding up signs saying "Thank you," and others holding out their hands to touch as we went by.  Many in the crowd were non-bikers.

Here are some more pics, including Superchuffer lined up with some good old American iron.  There were quite a few non-Harley-Davidson motorcycles present, and even a tiny motor scooter.  However, I didn't see any other dual-sport motorcycles.

Simply awesome.  I'm already planning for next year.
